Odisha: Gudi Padva, Hindu New  Year Celebrated in BhubaneswarReport by Odisha Diary bureau, Bhubaneswar: According to Hindu Panchang, today  is the holy day of  Chaitra Shukla Pratipada ,the day of beginning of the Universe and Mother Earth (Ugadi) and is celebrated by Hindus as the HINDU NEW YEAR since time immemorial.  Gudi Padva was celebrated today at the Ram Mandir in a programme organised by Bharat Raksha Manch and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.Today is the Vikram Sambvat 2071 Yugabadh 5116.

A symbolic DHARMA  DHWAJA made up of Bamboo, Silk cloth and Copper Kalasha was erected in the Ram Mandir premises after sunrise amid the chanting of mantras and slogans. Puja was performed after the Dhwaja was erected. The spiritual and the scientific importance of today’s tithi was told to those present.

Anil Dhir, National secretary of Bharat Raksha Manch and Shri  Prakash Malondkar and Sriram Kane  of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti along with others were present. The day has also been celebrated as the  Victory day when Lord Rama entered Ayodhya after vanquishing  Ravana and signifies the  Hindu Concept of Truth shall always prevail and evil will be vanquished. That day every one in Ayodhya raised this Dharma Dhawaja on their  houses to reaffirm their allegiance  to their laid down  Hindu values.
