Unidentified miscreants desecrated seven under-construction idols of Hindu deities, including Goddess Basanti, in a temple, Ma Kalir Mandir, at Tanore municipality in the early hours yesterday.
Local people found the idols broken around 6:30am, said Shambhunath Das, president of the temple’s Puja Udjapon Committee, adding that the idols were missing hands, heads and other parts.
Tanore Upazila Nirbahi Officer Majeda Yasmin and Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Hannan visited the scene.
Hannan told The Daily Star that police had started investigating the case.
