Rajiv Gandhi didn’t take my father’s calls during 1984 Anti Sikh pogrom : Zail Singh’s daughter

1391541062_sikhsJust few days after the press secretary of the then President Giani Zail Singh, Tarlochan Singh said that 1984 pogrom was orchestrated and sponsored, former President’s daughter, Gurdeep Kaur has made another startling revelation, saying that her father made repeated calls to the Prime Minister’s office during the anti-Sikh pogroms to have the Army called in to control the mobs, but his calls were not entertained.

In an interview to a Punjabi channel, Kaur said that her father who was the supreme commander of armed forces at that time had felt pain and helplessness as he could not establish contact with then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Home Minister P V Narasimha Rao.

She said her father instead sent out people close to him to use their influence to put an end to the anti-Sikh pogrom.

“I wouldn’t be able to explain why he couldn’t reach the PMO, but he kept trying the entire night,” She said.

Kaur also said that her father’s own convoy was attacked.

Adding that Zail Singh was kept in the dark about Operation bluestar, she said that Singh was against sending in the Army to flush out terrorists from the Golden Temple.
