Hindu Groups Protest against Police Attrocity on Bajrang Dal Member
Following the allegations of inhuman torture of Manoj by police constable Sunil and Isaak, Bajrang Dal has demanded appropriate action against such atrocities failing to which a district wide protest will be held.
In connection to an assault case in Ullal KC Road case, many Hindu youths were taken in for questioning, illegally kept in lock up and released after a day or two. On January 24, at around 2 am, Bajrang Dal activist Manoj Kumar was forcefully taken from his residence by an ACP led team. He was taken to an unknown location and two police constables Isaak and Sunil who were allegedly in an inebriated state, started mercilessly beating him and also electrocuted him. Despite FIR being lodged against them no action is being taken for a week now.
Hindu activists have thus started holding protest meet demanding action against the constables.
Bajang Dal Convener Sharan Pumpwell addressed the protest and asked, “Everyone needs to be subjected to law and order and not be treated inhumanely like it was done in this case. The offenders caught in the Deralakatte forced sex case who committed such a brutal crime and later assaulted a cop, were still treated better. But here an innocent person was subjected to third degree treatment by police constables and no action is taken against them. We respect the law and also believe in the system. Our struggle is to protect our religion and the culture of this nation. Bajrang Dal severely condemns the brutal and inhuman treatment of Manoj.”
Jagadish Shenava, district secretary of VHP present at the meeting said, “The police claim Manoj had contact with Underworld people, which is the reason he was questioned to give up information. But we all know that it is the few of the Police who are in close contact with such criminals and not members of our organizations.”
“With little investigations, it can be revealed that this police constable Sunil has the highest number of contacts from Underworld goons saved on his phone directory. His family life is public knowledge after his wife left him unable to tolerate his domestic violence. The other constable Isaak was previously suspended for brutalizing two innocents based on the mere suspicious that they were related to the Panjimogaru Murder case. These two constables who are such disgrace to being human beings are supposed to be law protectors. With the authority they hold, all they have done is abused their power over innocents. They have been taking personal revenge on anyone through their police outfits and involving in such heinous tortures., Shenava added.
An FIR was filed on time regarding the incident but no action is taken yet. A week after the incident no action is still taken against the unlawful constables. We have decided to hold protest meet at all of the 79 offices in Mangalore and will block roads at these places at peak hours of the day. We know this will cause inconvenience to people but there is a higher concern were are targeting. Inhumane treatment of any indvidual will be condemned by us, especially when law protecting police are involved in such abuse of powers. Leaders are even deciding to hold bundh in Mangalore if no action is taken till then.” Shenava threatened the police department.
The protest meet was joined by other Vishwa Hindu Parishad members such as Krishna Murthy, Gopal Kuthar, and other members of the organizations.
