Hindus demand 60 reserved seats in Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad

Minorities have demanded 60 reserved seats in Jatiya Sangsad.

Several hundreds of people from Hindu community under the banner of Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote placed the demand while staging a two-hour sit-in on a road in front of Jatiya Press Club today.

Jatiya Hindu Mohajote, a platform of the Hindu community people, organised the programme that began around 10:30am to protest against the recent attacks on minorities centring the January 5 general elections.

The other demands, which were placed by the community, include separate election procedure for the minorities, judicial investigation into the attacks on Hindus, immediate arrest and punishment to the perpetrators and compensation for victims and reconstruction of their houses.

The community leaders also threatened to refrain from their right to franchise if their demands are not met.

They have launched a mass signature campaign to press home their demands which would be placed before the prime minister, speaker, BNP chairperson and Election Commission on January 30, the leaders said.
