TRICHY: Immigration officials at Trichy airport took into custody Mohideen Madar, 40, the brother of Bilal Malik, one of the accused in the murder of five people, including BJP and Sangh Parivar leaders across the state, as he tried to board an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur with a passport that did not carry his original residential address. Soon after he was caught by immigration police on suspicion, Madar was handed over to the airport police where deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Abhinav Kumar questioned him.
Initially, the Trichy police thought they had netted a big fish as Madar happened to be the brother of Bilal Malik who was arrested in October 2013 in connection with the 2011 pipebombs against Advani and others. High drama had preceded the arrest of Bilal Malik and Panna Ismail, in Puthur, Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu police arrested them after a shoot-out in which an inspector was injured.
DCP Abhinav Kumar told TOI, “Mohideen Madar’s passport is genuine with only a variation in the address. Otherwise, everything is fine with him, and there is no police record against him.” Kumar further said that Madar, though brother of Malik, had been working in Dubai since 1993, and he was now going to Malaysia looking for a job. “He is a genuine guy and there is no adverse report against him,” Abhinav Kumar said.
However, a case was filed against Madar under section 12(1) B of the Indian Passport Act for suppression of information. A penalty would be imposed on him, Kumar said.
Police sources said Madar had apparently returned from Dubai in 2011.
Later, keen on going back to the Gulf, he chose to change his name in the passport as he did not want to be associated with his brother Bilal Malik.
