New Delhi: Over Prashant Bhushan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, at least 20 Hindu activists, on Monday, disrupted his press conference and launched a protest against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.
The AAP leader had come with members of the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) at the Indian Women Press Corps (IWPC).
As the conference began, a young man claiming himself to be Vishnu Gupta and chief of Hindu Sena entered the conference room and raised slogans against Bhushan.
He urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to throw Bhushan out of the country.
Aam Aadmi Party volunteers guided the man out and closed the main gate of the IWPC. By then, the press conference got disrupted.
Police said they were looking for a complaint from the AAP.
On Jan 8, dozens of Hindu activists attacked the AAP head office in Ghaziabad to protest Bhushan’s controversial remarks on army deployment in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prashant triggered controversy after he said in an interview to a leading channel, “People should be asked whether they want the army to handle the internal security of Kashmir. Any decision which does not have the backing of the people is undemocratic. If people feel that the army is violating human rights and they say they don’t want the army to be deployed for their security then the army should be withdrawn from the hinterland.”
“The government can decide if the Army needs to be deployed to deal with external threats along the border. The government can also decide if the army needs to be kept to help protect the minorities in the valley. But there should be a referendum on whether people want AFSPA to continue in the valley or not,” he added.
