Deepavali,the festival of lights was celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm in the union territory of Puducherry today.
People clad in new clothes lit up the skies bursting varieties of crackers together with their neighbours in several areas.They also exchanged sweets prepared according to respective customs.
Special poojas were performed in all temples including the famous Manakkula Vinayagar temple,where queues were seen since early this morning.The plesant climate this year had enhanced the spirit of the people to celebrate the festival.
Puducherry Lt Governor Virendra Kataria, Minister of state for PMO Mr V Narayanasamy, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy and his cabinet collegues and leaders of various political parties among others greeted the people on the occasion.
