Turkish national embraces Hinduism

AMRITSAR: A Turkish youth who came to India via the Wagah border last week embraced Hinduism on Tuesday. Local unit of the VHP performed the conversion rituals at an Arya Samaj temple during which the 25-year old Ozene wore a sacred thread and changed his name to Shankar Nathan.

In an affidavit in the court of first class magistrate, he said that he was adopting Hinduism out of desire and was greatly inspired after reading Upanishads on the Internet.

He told reporters “for this purpose there was enormous encouragement extended by my parents in Turkey who allowed me to visit India.”

Nathan said that after returning to his country he would construct a temple in Turkey and install a statue of Shiva and Parvati in it. He would also ask his friends to convert to Hinduism, the Turkish national added.
