Laxmi Satija was born in 1935 in Bakkar, near Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She lost her mother when she was nine or ten years old. She recalls her mother being an extremely talented woman who taught her knitting and stitching at a very young age.
