President, PM greet Hindu community on Janmashtami

President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages, greeted members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna.

In a message on the eve of the occasion, the president said the ideals of Sri Krishna were to forge the bond of true love and amity between man and man, removing conflicts.

“He always looked for the path of emancipation for humanity,” he added.

The president said Bangladesh is a country of religious harmony and the festivals of all religions are observed here collectively.

He said followers of all faiths have been living in harmony in the country since the old days.

Abdul Hamid called upon followers of all faiths to work together for national progress through strengthening the bond of fraternity and friendship existing in society.

The president wished all success of the Janmashtami celebrations.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government is pledged-bound to maintain communal harmony in the country.

“Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony where people of caste and creed have been living in harmony for ages,” she said.

The PM said the main objective of Lord Krishna was to establish parity in society and friendship among people.

“He (Lord Krishna) had upheld the flag of peace, love for humanity and justice throughout his life. He used to adore truth and beauty through his work, lifestyle and messages,” she added.

The prime minister hoped that the ideals and teachings of Sri Krishna would be inspiring for his followers constantly to further consolidate the thousand-year-old communal harmony and bond of friendship in the country.

She wished peace, happiness and welfare of all citizens of the country on the holy occasion.
