100 Dalit families who embraced Islam agree to reconvert following interference from VHP, Bajrang Dal

Chandigarh : Around 100 families belonging to the Dalit community embraced Islam a day ago. The mass conversion took place in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. However, members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal got in touch with the converted families and convinced them to return back within the fold of Hinduism.

The Dalits belonging to Bhagana village of Hisar district have alleged atrocities inflicted on them by the upper caste Jat in the village. They have been protesting since the past 3 years. As a mark of protest, they finally embraced Islam to break free from the shatters of caste system. Their conversion raised concern in the Bhagana, where VHP called for a mahapanchayat on Sunday.

District leaders of VHP have assured the villagers that the converted Dalits will turn back towards Hinduism. The leaders were in constant touch with the Dalit families. “The families have been contacted and they have agreed to return to the fold of Hinduism. They are being lured to convert by offering them incentives. However, they will return to their roots,” said VHP leader Praduman Kumar.

The conversion of Dalits has reportedly created a sensitive atmosphere in the village which has a significant Muslim population. The sarpanch of village Rakesh Panghal has however, dismissed such reports claiming that the situation in Bhagana is peaceful.
