Punjab, which is still in panic after the bloodbath in Gurdaspur, is facing another big terror threat. Intelligence agencies have alerted the Punjab government that the Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa and Lashkar-e-Taiba militants are planning a bigger strike in the state before the Independence Day, sources said.

The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid on Thursday night in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir. BSF sources said four people, believed to be terrorists, were trying to enter India in an area between Mangu Chak and Khoada posts. They, however, vanished after the BSF jawans challenged them. Sources also said terrorists numbered between 30 and 40 were seen near the Samba sector and must be trying to sneak into India.

BSF sources said finding it difficult to enter Jammu and Kashmir following the tight security, the terrorists are now focusing on Punjab.

“Terrorists have now diverted their attention towards Punjab as we have foiled five infiltration bids in Jammu and Kashmir during the last month,” said DGP BSF DK Pathak.

Earlier during the first week of April, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had also alerted that nearly three dozen terrorists who had gathered on Poonch border may sneak into Indian territory. A group of 16 terrorists were seen in and around Nangi post.

Sources said the Pakistan Rangers in order to push the terrorists inside India had also tried to engage the BSF on April 19 in Kathua area of Jammu and Kashmir, which is also located close to Punjab.

Arrested Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) chief Jagtar Singh Tara during his interrogation earlier this year had disclosed that the KTF, Khalistan Liberation Force, Khalistan Commando Force and other terror groups have joined hands with LeT and other Pakistan-based terror groups.

Intelligence inputs have also said Sikh militant groups are getting funding from Khalistan supporters who live in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other European countries. Sources said the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is behind the terror strikes which also paved the way for the unification of Babbar Khalsa and LeT.

Sources said ISI along with LeT and Jaishe-Mohammed is running nearly three dozen training camps for the terrorists between Lahore and Muzaffarabad. Besides Pakistan, the Khalistan terrorists are also getting training in Thailand.

On July 27, three terrorists dressed in Army uniforms struck at a police station in Dinanagar, 20 kilometres away from the international border, near Gurdaspur.
