(AP Photo/Wally Santana) The Hindu Temple and Cultural of Birmingham, 200 North Chandalar Drive in Pelham, will host a dance performance benefit Saturday, June 13, at 2 p.m. for victims of the earthquake in Nepal.
Nearly 5,000 died and thousands more were injured when a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the country on April 25.
The event on Saturday features traditional dancing performed by a guest artist from Chennai, India. Venkatakrishnan Mahalingam and others will take part in a full classical performance of Bharata Natyam. South Indian snacks will be served following the performance. A $10 donation is requested. Funds will help aid earthquake victims through Heifer International in Nepal.
Hinduism is the major religion in Nepal, with about 81 percent of the population identifying themselves as Hindus.
