Newington Hindu Temple To Host Health Clinic Saturday

 locmap_NEWINGTON_144.332X-38.3366667X144.668X-38.0966667A local Hindu temple is hosting a health clinic Saturday, offering free checkups and screenings for a wide variety of diseases and conditions.

The clinic will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Vallabhdham Temple at 26 Church St. All, regardless of insurance status or where they live, are welcome. Patients are asked to register beforehand, if possible.

Roger DeSai, a temple member and an organizer of the event, said that the temple is holding the clinic to help the community.

“The purpose of the health fair is to increase health awareness through education and prevention,” DeSai said. “The Vallabhdham Temple believes this free health fair will provide a valuable service to our community.”

Dozens of doctors and other medical professionals are donating their time to provide free services. The event will offer free dental and medical checkups.

Screenings for cancer, diabetes and asthma will also be offered. Women will be able to receive a free mammogram.

Other services will include:

•EKGs.

•Audiology.

•Eye screenings.

•Urinalysis.

•Cholesterol check.

•Foot and ankle screenings.

In addition, a pharmacist will give consultations. There will also be free educational health seminars from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Mayor Stephen Woods and state Sen. Paul Doyle, D-Wethersfield, are expected to attend.

Sponsors include Hartford Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and the Connecticut Association of Physicians of Indian Descent.
