Dear Friends,

Subject: More On Netaji And His Contribution

Although our last mail was strictly speaking not on Netaji’s contribution towards India gaining Independence, we could not restrain ourselves from sharing with you some observations in response to our mail on this “most neglected” hero of the freedom movement, from a 1923-born senior Indian, now in Canada.

He writes:

I have practically grown with the Independence Movement of India, having been born in 1923. Netaji’s contribution is not only indelible but is like the pillar of success. Subhash ji was a contributor whereas Gandhi–Nehru were manipulators. The British were more afraid of I.N.A rather than demonstrations held by Gandhi and his cronies. The British realized the might of the Indian Army. They had recently won the Second World War with its prowess. With the inroads made by I.N.A into the Indian Army ,they were scared of the possibility of Indian Forces turning against them leading to untold bloodshed. They took the easier course of making it a civil movement and divided the country leading to possible disaster without them having been bled and they were successful too. The wounds of partition are still lingering and taking its toll.

Well, Friends, it is not a question of whether we agree or not with Shri Agnihotrij’s views. It is to us more important how someone living in those troubled times, that is, the time country had passed through the freedom movement and now staying out of India, had assessed the situation. The rest is your take!

Vandemataram,

Your sevak,

D.C. Nath

(Former Spl. Director, IB)
