Bangladesh HC issues orders for protection of Adv Rabindra Ghosh

Bangladesh-CIA_WFB_MapAdvocate Rabindra Ghosh of Bangladesh Minority Watch had filed a writ before the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh seeking protection. This was in relation to the numerous threats he has received and also the attempts made on his life, when he was rendering services to the minority Hindus in Gopalganj district of Bangladesh.

A Division Bench of the High Court Division consisting Justice Kazi Rezaul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman, on 27th May, 2015 issued a rule Nisi calling upon the Government of Bangladesh represented by Secretary-Ministry of Home Affairs, 2) The Deputy Commissioner, Gopalgonj 3) The Superintendent of Police, Gopalgonj, 4) Officer in Charge of Gopalgonj Sadar Police station to provide security & protection to Advocate Rabindra Ghosh of Bangladesh Supreme Court. The High Court Division also directed the Bar Association to take necessary action for the protection of Adv Ghosh during his professional duty within the court.

Advocate Ghosh was brutally assaulted on 25.11.2013 within the court premises of Gopalgonj by some unruly Advocates of Gopalgonj Bar. Adv Ghosh was in the court to provide legal assistance to Hindu Detainees now in Custody. The Advocates who assaulted Adv Ghosh are 1) Md.Asgar Ali Khan, 2) Md.Hafizur Rahman, 3) Md. Enamul Hoque, 4) Moinul Islam Mridha, 5) Md. Saiful Kabir Emon, 6) Sheikh Mohammad Mostaque Hossain and 7) Pijush Kumar Chanda. Adv Ghosh had lodged an F.I.R against those Advocates in the Gopalgonj police station, but no action had been initiated against them.

On behalf of Adv Ghosh, the International Commission of Jurists, Geneva wrote to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for taking necessary steps against those delinquent Advocates and police but no action was taken by the Government.
