Marathon charity event at Hindu Cultural Society Temple helps raise £15k for Great Ormond Street

Organised by Ramapeer Gaat Mandal West London, a 12-hour programme of music helped raise £15,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Musical groups from a variety of different religions came together as one to help raise the vital cash which will be used to develop new treatments and build new facilities at the London hospital.

Staring at 2pm, groups of singers who had travelled from as far as Leicester and Birmingham took it in turns to perform and entertain visitors who came to watch at the temple in Keel Drive.

This included table and sitar players and classical singers from India, while food was also served as the music continued into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Speaking to the Express at the event, organiser Mahendra Dabhi,  said: “We are trying to bring all the religious singers together.”

She continued: “The general public gets a variety of different kinds of singers, different kinds of musicians and different things. We are making a large community here.”
