Nepal Earthquake Relief Appeal

Dear Sewa Supporter,

Four days after the earthquake in Nepal, the death toll has risen to more than 3,800, and many of the worst hit villages are inaccessible due to landslides. Nepalese authorities have started airdropping packages of tarpaulins, dry food and medicine to mountain villages that cannot be reached by roads. Phone lines continue to be down, and electricity is out for most of the country. People still remain trapped in rubble in Kathmandu and Pokhara, while many remote villages are completely destroyed. 

In the wake of this disaster, Sewa International immediately released $10,000 on Saturday to help with the relief efforts.  Sewa is working with organizations in Nepal to provide first aid, distribute safe drinking water bottles, food packets, and blankets.  Six volunteers from Sewa International in the US, are traveling to Nepal to provide voluntary services this week.  

Sewa has also created an Emergency Hotline to help locate relatives in Nepal whose communication links are down and are not reachable through phones. For this service, call 708-872-7392.
