BELGAUM: Hindu organisations in North Karnataka staged protests in Hubli on Thursday against the Goa government’s ban on Pramod Mutalik, while also accusing the government of promoting drug, liquor and sex mafia in Goa.
Traffic on the busy Hubli-Dharwad highway came to a standstill for a couple of hours, as members of these organisations gathered at the Ambedkar Circle at Noon.
Activists of organisations like Hindu Mahasabha, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sri Ram Sene staged protests at Ambedkar Circle, Hubli, condemning the ban imposed by Goa on Mutalik’s entry.
The gathered activists shouted slogans against the Goa government for depriving Pramod Mutalik of his fundamental right to visit temples and places of pilgrimages in Goa.
A memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also submitted to the district authorities, demanding his intervention in this whole issue and to direct the Goa government to restore Pramod Mutalik’s fundamental rights to enter Goa.
In the memorandum to be submitted to Prime Minister Modi during his Bangalore visit, the organisations have blamed the Goa government for promoting drug, liquor and sex mafia, which is adversely affecting the young generation in Goa.
Apart from posing threat to women security, the drug and sex mafia under the guise of promotion of tourism is also responsible for dirty beaches, they claimed.
The memorandum also states that apart from affecting the spirituality of Goa, the mafia is engaged in destroying the ancient Goan culture.
The Hindu organisations have called on the Prime Minister to direct Goa’s Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to withdraw the entry ban imposed against Pramod Mutalik and also to tackle the mafia for a safer, cleaner and better Goa.
