Touchtalent.com denigrates Hindu Gods Shriram, Mata Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman

Touchtalent.com, an online community depicted Shriram  like a “dope hero” with His sunglasses on, Mata Sita and Lakshman in modern dress and Hanuman as Superman in one of their cartoon. (Referencehttp://touchtalent.com/blog/best-diwali-illustration-will-see/)

Alert Hindus notified Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a noted Hindu organization in India, about this denigration of Shriram, Sita Mata, Lakshman and Hanuman.  Accordingly, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti wrote to touchtalent.com, but there has been no response from them. (The letter explaining the denigration is published later on this page.)

Portraying Hindu Deities in cartoon amounts to trivialization of the Deities.

Subject: Request to remove cartoon by artist Ankur Choudhary denigrating Shriram, Sita Mata, Lakshman and Hanuman

Dear Sir,

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is a registered NGO in India doing social, Hindu Dharma related and national welfare work. The Samiti is also active throughout the world, educating people about Hindu Dharma in a scientific way, campaigning against malpractices done as Hindu Dharma related practices and solving problems related to misrepresentation of Hindu Dharma. For further details please visit our websitewww.HinduJagruti.org.

We had received complaints about some cartoons drawn by Ankur Choudhary displayed on your website http://touchtalent.com/blog/best-diwali-illustration-will-see/. In these cartoons, Shriram is shown like a “dope hero” with his sunglasses on, Mata Sita and Lakshman in modern dress and Hanuman as Superman and on their way back home in a vintage car, they stop to pose for a picture to show off muscles and strength. This is a denigration of Shriram, Lakshman, Mata Sita and Hanuman.

It is nice that you are promoting this legendary story of victory of good over evil for children. However, using the Hindu Deities in this manner still amounts to denigration. We feel that the artist is sharing his creative work on our Hindu deities’ pictures, but actually it is denigration and an offence as per Indian Penal Code section 295A.What will be the impact of such cartoons on children? Will such cartoons help to increase faith in Hindu Deities and Hinduism? Will such denigration tell the true essence of our Dharma Shaastra? We request you to see our page explaining about Shriram http://www.hindujagruti.org/hinduism/festivals/ram-navami/. There are other ways of exhibiting talent. We believe it should not be done to become a hindrance in developing faith and devotion unto God.

We request you to remove these cartoons immediately from your website and avoid the denigration of Deities and Hinduism in the future, too. Please acknowledge this letter and inform us in writing about the action taken by you in this regard, failing which we will be forced to start a protest campaign. Awaiting your prompt action and reply.

Yours faithfully,
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti
