Despite administration crackdown, the Hindu Mahasabha insists on celebrating January 30, the day Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse, as ‘shourya Diwas’.
The celebrations include installation of Godse statue in different parts of the country including Meerut and Delhi
Madan Acharya, the national general secretary of Hindu Mahasabha, who was booked on Thursday by UP police, said the installation of Godse statue in different parts of the country, including Meerut would happen as scheduled.
His insistence comes even as the UP Government warned the Hindutva groups of stern action and a “possible ban” if they don’t stop themselves from their agenda of ‘disturbing’ communal harmony.
Senior leader of the ruling Samajwadi Party and a Minister in the Akhilesh Yadav Government, Shivpal Singh, told the media on Thursday that the State Government would not allow anybody to ‘divide’ the country in the name of religion.
The Hindutva outfit, which adores and romanticises Nathuram Godse as a ‘patriot’ and a ‘martyr’, had on Wednesday organised a bhumi pujan to install his statue and a temple in Meerut after which the State administration booked several of its leaders.
“Whatever the administration plans to do, we would as per the schedule install the statue of pandit Nathuram Godse on January 30,”
“Our network exists across the country in 16 States. In UP alone, we have offices in 63 districts where we will organise programmes to mark ‘shaurya diwas,” added Mr. Madan.
He said the Mahasabha would also install a statue in Ambala where Godse was executed.
