Hindu Aikya Vedi to file plaint against ‘Chandrika homam’

hindu-aikyavedi-emblemTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hindu Aikya Vedi will lodge a complaint with the city police commissioner against UDF councillors for mimicking a Hindu ritual at corporation office during their protest demanding maintenance of street lights.

The UDF councillors conducted a homam under the title ‘Chandrika homam’ in a mockery of mayor K Chandrika on Wednesday. The complaint will be filed on Saturday. According to the complaint, the act of UDF councillors deeply hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community and that it was staged in a way that could trigger communal unrest. The complaint also says that three non-Hindu UDF councillors led the ‘homam’ and they should apologize or issue a statement regretting their action. The members of Hindu Aikya Vedi also took out a demonstration at the corporation office against the UDF councillors.

“They profaned a religious ritual for political gains and is unpardonable. We have noted that three UDF councillors who led the homam belonged to another community,” said Thirumala Anil, member Hindu Aikya Vedi, state committee. The UDF councillors actually rephrased the ‘Chandika homam’ as ‘Chandrika homam’. Chandika homam is a popular ritual at Kollur Mookambika temple and it is done as a cure for all kinds of afflictions.

Meanwhile, UDF councillors sensed danger and conducted an all-religion prayer session on Friday as part of the protest.
