Hindu leader wants controversial painting removed

virgin-de-guadalupe-paintingALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Hindus are backing up Catholics upset over a controversial painting displayed at a Santa Fe gallery. The painting is a depiction of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It’s a bare-breasted Virgin Mary with what some people see as devil horns.

She’s also shown with a necklace of skulls typically worn by the Hindu goddess Kali. Saturday Hindu leader Rajan Zed spoke out against the painting saying it’s a “trivialization” of the Hindu goddess. Not only does Zed want the painting taken down but is asking the artist and gallery owner to apologize.

The gallery owner says she has no plans to take it down.
