RSS hopes to increase number of shakhas with BJP drive

Flag_of_Rashtriya_Swayamsevak_SanghAs the BJP is riding high on the “NaMo” wave and is confident of meeting its target of 10 crore members, the RSS is also hoping that saffron party’s ongoing membership drive and Narendra Modi government’s popular schemes, including Jan Dhan Yojana, would help in getting the number of its shakhas increase significantly. BJP’s membership drive was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month and West Bengal, southern states and north-eastern states are the focus areas of the party.

The entire Sangh Parivar cadre is involved in promoting the government’s schemes as well as the membership drive. While there are more than 45,000 Sangh shakhas conducted across the country, the RSS is hoping that BJP’s membership drive as well as government’s popular schemes would also help in increasing its presence especially in states where Assembly elections are scheduled.

Even in the north-eastern region, the RSS is also reaching out through BJP’s membership drive to get more and more shakhas open in the region.

Meanwhile, in the Hindi heartland, where both the RSS and BJP have a strong presence, the RSS is busy reviving those shakhas which had shut down in the recent past along with opening new shakhas.

The Sangh Parivar is also getting in touch with its former swayamsevaks. In UP, where Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in 2017, the RSS is reviving its former swayamsevaks as well as wooing new ones to set up new shakhas. Bihar, where Assembly elections are scheduled for 2015, the Sangh cadre is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that maximum number of people are enrolled with the BJP.
