“Religious leaders representing a cross-section of the Hindu community met at an historic gathering at the Malboro Hindu temple, today, to form the World Hindu Foundation Gauteng working committee, to mobilise efforts towards the 20th anniversary of the World Hindu Conference set to take place in July next year. With full support from some of the major Hindu organisations the meeting opened with a Prayer from Pope Govender-the vice president of the SA Tamil Federation-SATF. The World Hindu Foundation is aglobal organisation that focusses on the progress of Hindu society. Pravesh Hurdeen the national President of the World Hindu Foundation set out the objectives and aims of the organisation. The meeting set the tone of Hindu unity and the need for a deeper focus on the contribution of Hindus in the areas of education, politics, economics and the media. Moreover, the working committee was tasked with setting goals towards the World Hindu Conference and to develop and enhance a deeper link of Hindus globally. The attention to Hindu youth development was raised as a key issue and the theme of Unity in Diversity was echoed by all.
