RSS Hailed Chola for Five Decades’

Flag_of_Rashtriya_Swayamsevak_SanghCHENNAI: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday stoutly denied reports that the RSS has been planning to celebrate the 1,000th year of coronation of King Rajendra Chola with a view to gain political mileage before the 2016 Assembly elections.

N Sadagopan, RSS spokesperson and Durai Sankar, state president of the RSS told mediapersons that the name of King Rajendra Chola was not new to Sangh cadre as they had been chanting it for over five decades.

“The RSS cadre used to chant the Ekatmata Stotram, a prayer offered to Bharat Matha. The stotram contains names of great saints, freedom fighters and others who had served the nation. In one of the stanzas, the name of King Rajendra Chola is mentioned”, they explained.

Giving a detailed account on the achievements of King Rajendra Chozha to the culture and heritage of India, the RSS functionaries said the Sangh would organise rallies on November 9 in all district headquarters in the State to mark the 1000th year of coronation of Rajendra Chozha. Besides, the Sangh has also decided to celebrate the occasion across the country in a grand manner throughout the year.
