Remembering Jayaprakash Narayan

Dear Friends,

Subject: Remembering JP

Today (October 11, 2014) happens to be the 112th anniversary of the “forgotten to the present generation”, Jayaprakash Narayan, a freedom fighter of the yore and a jail-escapee during the British regime. Perhaps, it may be more pertinent and ‘enchanting’ to remember him for his socialist credentials and his historic fight against the Emergency (1975) imposed by Indira Gandhi and his famous coinage in respect of Indira Gandhi in that context “bipadkale budhhi bhrangsh“.

Only those who had the privilege of having seen this “strongman” or having been in Patna during or soon after his days in Patna, alone will be able to or can give due expression to the charismatic personality of this most innocuous-looking man.

Those who would like to know more on him, can look up the ed-page write-up, appearing in “The Statesman” of October 11, 2014, with the title, “Did India deserve JP? Indeed, a valid question at this point of history.

We do, however, take this opportunity to pay our most respectful “pronam” to this typically and characteristically socialist soul.

Vandemataram,

Your sevak,

D.C. Nath

(Former Spl. Director, IB)
