Dear Friends,

Subject: Happy Dusserah And Shuvo Vijaya

It is, as an elder-brother like friend once, although in a different context,  had said many years back, “It Is Neither A Tempest” nor “Midsummer Nights Dream“, it is “As You Like It“. So, it would be “Happy Dusserah” on conclusion of “Ravan Badh” or “Ram Nabami” for some, and it would be “Shuvo Vijaya” for those who enjoyed four-day long “Durga Puja“, called the “Mother of All Festivals“. Both the festivals are generally observed in North India.

After beating the “Asura”-the demon god, that is, fighting away all evils, “Ma Durga” visits Her father’s house along with the four children, namely, “Lakshmi”-goddess of wealth and material well-being, “Saraswati”–the goddess of learning and wisdom, “Ganesh”—-the god who removes all obstacles in life, and “Kartik”, the army chief of the gods–a symbol of courage and self-conviction. She then departs to Her husband’s (Lord Shiva) at “Kailash Parbat” in the Himalayas after the immersion of the idol on the Dashami (the day after Ram Nabami). She leaves her blessings, that is when Vijaya greetings are exchanged–in person, through cards and letters and now through the mail, as the case may be.

So, friends, although slightly belated, we take this occasion to sincerely wish “Happy Dusserah” and “Shuvo Vijaya” to all readers and viewers of our circulatory mails.

Thanking you and with regards,

Vandemataram,

Your sevak,

D.C. Nath
