Sewa International USA announces $5000 matching grant for Pakistan’s minority flood victims.
Houston October 11 – Devastating floods in Pakistan caused by torrential rains have inundated southern Sindh province and destroyed more than one million homes. Among 7.5 million people affected, more than three million are critically short of food. Death and despair lurk everywhere as no relief is in sight.
With millions of acres of land under water and crops and communities in ruins, flood victims are taking refuge on rooftops and in roadside makeshift camps. Forced to drink the contaminated water and with no food to eat, children and the elderly are facing a greater risk of disease and worse.
As cries for help from people seem to be lost in miles and miles of waist-deep water, Sewa International USA (www.sewausa.org) is announcing a $5000 matching grant to help the minorities in southern Sindh. Sewa is appealing to individuals and organizations to generously help the flood victims.
Helping the poorest
Pakistan was hit by floodwaters from the overflowing Indus in 2010. Even before the recovery efforts take root, heavy monsoon downpour has ravaged the country again. Sewa USA is trying to extend a helping hand to the poorest of the poor and the weakest of the weak in the flood affected areas.
Sewa USA is working through Hare Rama Foundation, a local, registered non-profit organization based in Punjab, Pakistan. Hare Rama Foundation works very closely with the scheduled caste families in Sindh to support marginalized sections of the Pakistani society.
Registered with the Government of Pakistan as a non-governmental and non-profit organization, Hare Rama Foundation focuses on providing education in rural areas, creating awareness on gender and women rights and building interfaith harmony.
How to Help
SEWA International (www.sewausa.org) is requesting individuals, citizen groups, community organizations and companies to generously donate their time and tax-deductible monetary contributions to SEWA for helping Pakistan’s flood victims. Sewa USA will match the donations it receives for this cause, dollar-to-dollar, up to 5000 dollars.

Hare Rama Foundation has been providing food, warm clothing and other essentials to flood victims. The donations Sewa USA receives for this cause will help expand and strengthen foundation’s relief operations.
