Largest Hindu Pilgrimage in Indian Kashmir

369631_INDIAN CONTROLLED KASHMIRTens of thousands of Hindu devotees have arrived in Indian controlled Kashmir to pay obeisance at the Amaranth Shrine, considered to be one of the holiest sites in Hinduism.

Undeterred by hilly terrene and weather conditions for the last 4 days over 60000 pilgrims have made it to the cave shrine which is 3,900 meters above sea level. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims chanting hymns are daily trudging to a cave shrine. Some trek up the hill and many others hiring local men to help them reach the Cave. The uphill task takes them some 6 to 7 hours to reach the shrine housing naturally formed ice stalagmite. Thousands of police forces have been deployed to safeguard pilgrims. While people of Kashmir have always welcomed Hindu Pilgrims the environmentalists have been asking government to limit the number of visitors due to the growing concern of melting glaciers. However the government has so far failed to take measures.
