Cow-head incident an insult to Hindus, says Malaysia Hindu Sangam

Malaysia InsiderMalaysia Hindu Sangam has criticised those responsible for the dumping of a bloodied and skinned cow’s head at the home of DAP Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer this morning.

Its president, Datuk R.S. Mohan Shan, said the act was an insult to the Hindu religion, which revered and worshipped the cow.

“The cow is a sacred animal to all Hindus. We respect every part of the cow, including the head,” Mohan told The Malaysian Insider.

He said a cow should not be belittled or insulted and used to do bad things to others, adding it was also a sign of disrespect.

“Clearly, whoever was responsible for the act has no respect for other religions, or the rights and beliefs of other worshipers,” Mohan said.

Rayer’s wife alerted him to the incident when she made the gory discovery at the front gate of their house in Penang at 6.45am.

Rayer had courted controversy last month when he uttered “Umno celaka” in the Penang legislative assembly.

Furious Umno members, especially from the Youth section, had demanded an apology and action be taken against Rayer.

However, Rayer did not link this morning’s incident with his remark in the assembly.

Mohan also said the cow head incident was not the first time, as in 2009, a group of residents from Shah Alam had brought a cow head to the Selangor state secretariat building in protest against the state government’s decision to relocate a 150-year-old Hindu temple from Section 19 to Section 23.

In October last year, Hindus were outraged over the slaughter of cows in school compounds during Hari Raya Haji.

Non-Muslim parents, especially Hindus, expressed their anger over the incident, saying it should have been carried out in more suitable places.

“Nowadays, things are steadily worsening with irresponsible statements and actions,” Mohan said, adding Putrajaya should not take this lightly.

For example, Mohan said, the statement by former Perkasa deputy president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin yesterday was an attempt to intimidate others.

“By questioning whether people wanted another May 13 racial riot, he is trying to incite and scare the people.”

Mohan also took a swipe at the police, saying they should serve all Malaysians.

“There are times when it looks as if the police are only interested in going after one particular group.” – June 28, 2014.
