24 hours on, no major cue in Hindu Munnani activist murder

CHENNAI: No arrest has been made in the gruesome murder of Hindu Munnani functionary K P Suresh Kumar on Wednesday night and police maintained that it was premature to comment on the motive.

According to police officers the preliminary investigations are on collecting details about the victim, his business dealings and related activities.

The murder which took place in the vicinity of the office premises of Joint Commissioner of Police at Ambattur has rattled the the city police which is vouching on its enhanced patrolling system to act as a deterrent against crimes.

“The autopsy was completed only today and we are examining other evidences collected from the spot. We have also collected the statements from the eyewitnesses,” said a top police officer.

Police sources said Suresh Kumar besides running an STD booth also owns a van which he operates on rental basis. He was also active organizing Hindu Munnani meetings in the Thiruvallur east unit of the saffron outfit. “The deceased had also come under the scanner for a hate speech made in last December wherein he had made derogatory remarks against a religious community. Further, he seems to have got involved a few times in business conflicts between scrap dealers in the area,” said a police officer.

Meanwhile, the state police headquarters has issued an alert to police officers across the state to take necessary precautionary measures to dissuade any possible communal flare-up.
