Human Rights for Hindus Remains Elusive in Some Parts of the World

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Hindu Association (PHA) is crying foul after finding posters of Hindu deities with their faces replaced with that of famed late guitarist Jimi Hendrix.

PHA chairman P. Murugiah said the posters were available at RM29 each during a recent book fair in Penang.

He said he was alerted to the matter by people who called him up to express their disgust over the posters.

He called on the company which sold the item, as well as the shopping mall which hosted the event, to issue a public apology.

“Such posters are an insult to the Hindu faith and have offended Hindus the world over,” he said in a press conference today.

Murugiah urged those who were unsure about religious matters to obtain advice from related organisations to avoid misunderstanding.

“If they are not sure, they can get advice from Indian or Hindu NGOs on what they should sell or display,” he said, while calling on the authorities to take action.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy said he will seek an explanation from the organiser.
