Hindu temple attacked in Hyderabad

Hyderabad-MapHYDERABAD: Some miscreants attacked an old Hindu temple near the major Kali Mata Temple in the Site area on Friday.

An eyewitness Kirshan Kumar said that he saw four men entering the Hanuman Temple at 7:00am. They lighted candles, showing as if they had come for worship. However, after a few moments they started damaging idols and set things inside the temple on fire. The eyewitness said that the miscreants took out guns to keep people away when a few youth of the area tried to intervene. The local people managed to extinguish the fire after the miscreants left the temple.

Later, the local Hindu community took to the streets in protest and demanded of the government to provide security to them and their worship places. A large number of political and civil society activists also reached the temple to express solidarity with members of the Hindu community and joined the protest.

Meanwhile, the Women Action Forum and other civil society groups staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club, demanding to the government to take stern action against those elements who were trying to disturb peace.
